*Guest Post* Denby Cast Iron Giveaway! US

I have teamed up with the owner of Couponfreestuff to bring you this review and giveaway!

In my home I do over 90% of my cooking in cast iron cookware.  I use it for just about everything and I always have.  In my opinion, nothing cooks my meals and side dishes better than cast iron. My entire life I watched my grandmother, a wonderful Southern cook, use hers for every meal.  They were seasoned just perfectly.  I always stood right next to her and asked question after question and now that she is no longer with me, that information has become invaluable.  My dad has also became a connoisseur of cast iron as well and he has gotten me some beautifully seasoned, old pieces from estate sales and thrift stores. Recently I was introduced to Denby USA and their line of cast iron cook ware.  I received  a Jet Cast Iron Shallow Casserole cooker and I absolutely love it.  It comes pre-seasoned and ready to go.  I do have my own little ritual that I do before I use any new cast iron.  I know this will probably sound very strange to most but I swear that it works perfectly.
  • I put water in whatever piece it is and put it on the stove to boil with potato peels in it.  I let it boils for 10-15 minutes.  When you are done , you will see some of the metals  and such from manufacturing will attach themselves to the peels.
  • I then clean and wipe the piece til its completely dry.
  • I then pour a bit of cooking oil ( my oil of choice is Olive oil) and wipe it around the piece til its all covered but not standing in oil.
  • I then put the piece in the oven at 300 for about a half an hour.  This sets the oil.
I love this Shallow Casserole cooker and have began cooking many tasty treats in it. It can be used in the oven up to 482 degrees F and is dishwasher and freezer safe.   Just yesterday I made a potato  creation ala' my dad.  I chop up my potatoes, add bacon, green beans, butter, salt, pepper, garlic and onion. And it is Yummy!
I cook chicken and chops in my cast iron and I even make sausage gravy in it.
The pan I received is definitely heavy and not for those who have trouble lifting.  The lid sits sturdily on top and keeps the healthy steam in for cooking vegetables and even rice.  I love the versatility of cast iron and it will forever be a staple in my home.
